Teaching Careers 10 and Math 11 today. Students were doing mock interviews today but many still needed to print off their cover letters and resumes. They did not dress up for interviews, although that might not have been discussed. During my prep I checked in with resource but there wasn't anyone who needed my help. I was able to spend some time working on my own coursework as I had done the photocopying the teacher had left for me.
In Math 11 students were working on practice for the end of chapter 4 in Foundations. I circulated through the class and students were on task and able to have some conversations while they worked. There's only two students who present as male in the class of approximately 22 students.

I was scheduled to teach for a counsellor this afternoon however as I do not have the credentials and there is a need for classroom teachers I was reassigned, as I expected. I taught English 8 where the first 15 minutes are assigned for silent reading and some students asked for more time. As they had another assignment I told them they could return to silent reading if they finished their work. They were assigned "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury and some questions to understand how character interactions develop a theme. Students were well behaved and most completed the work within the class time.
The other class was Career Life Education 10 where students were working on their grade 11/12 course planning. If they completed that assignment they were to work on their personal timelines which begins at birth and ends in their golden years. Working only the afternoon today as I was on union business in the morning. I picked up an afternoon assignment teaching textiles at a Secondary school. The students were working on lunch bags and if they finished they could work on extra projects. Everyone was productive and helped each other. The SEA in the class is very knowledgeable and was able to help students with their work too.
The second block was grade 8s who wanted to sew but that wasn't the instructions for the day. We watched a video on fast fashion and the textile waste it creates and had a discussion afterwards on things we can do to reduce the waste. I told the students the video was 20 minutes long and afterwards they would have time to do other work or go on their phones. They were attentive during the video and participated in the discussion. Great class! This morning I am working at a Secondary school in a resource room with another teacher. There was two teachers in the room but one was pulled for another class due to the teacher shortages. Students were to take out their agendas and write out their course rotation for the week and anything they need to highlight. The one remaining teacher (besides myself) taught a lesson to all students regarding IEPs as the students are starting to work on a planning sheet to develop IEPs. I walked around a bit helping students on this task. Most students did not have any additional work they needed to do so they were on their phones. In the second block a couple students came into the class for some help with math and science. Short day due to Teacher Growth Plan Committee meeting in the afternoon.
